Applications are invited for the position of Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow in Professor R. Angus Silver’s Lab in the Research Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology at UCL. The SilverLab (www.SilverLab.org) is a vibrant, highly multidisciplinary research group that investigates sensorimotor processing and motor learning in the cortico-cerebellar system by manipulating and recording circuit activity in behaving animals using cutting edge optical methods including 3D random access multi-photon microscopy, opto/chemo-genetics, electrophysiology and biologically detailed modelling. The lab also develops new optical and analysis methods and modelling tools for studying circuit function.

The Fellow will undertake experiments to explore how the motor cortex and cerebellar cortex communicate at the population level and investigate their roles in motor learning. The role holder will be expected to develop, plan and carry out original research so that the overall objectives of the research project are met. This will involve training animals, carrying out surgeries and imaging and perturbing neural activity. They will also be expected to analyse the experimental data they generate using custom scripts and statistical methods and write up their findings in research articles for peer-reviewed journals. The successful individual is expected to produce independent and original contributions to the project. In addition to developing and conducting research, the successful candidate will communicate results as scientific papers and in scientific presentations at local, national and international conferences.

The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is available for three years in the first instance.
