CCI In Conversation with Dr Robert Bullock, Save our Seas Foundation
Marine researcher Robert Bullock describes how biologging and telemetry reveal the hidden lives of sharks and rays and what these species need from their environments, how such tools are advancing and what they may make possible. He presents recent research on the potentially severe effects of acute and long-term ocean warming on juvenile sharks that use nursery areas, and draws on his experience, including successes and failures, of turning conservation research into actual conservation outcomes. His work applies tracking approaches to the movement, behaviour and ecology of elasmobranchs, mostly in the Seychelles and the Bahamas, including PhD research on the fine-scale behaviour of young lemon sharks at the Bimini Biological Field Station, extinction-risk assessment of marine species with the IUCN Marine Biodiversity Unit, and five years as Research Director of the Save Our Seas Foundation D'Arros Research Centre.
