About
Join the Cagan Lab in the Department of Genetics to investigate competition between mutant clones in healthy tissues and cancer suppression across mammalian species with different lifespans and body sizes. The project combines high-depth NanoSeq sequencing, species-specific gene panels, histology and quantitative evolutionary analysis. Responsibilities include reproducible variant-calling workflows, mutation-rate and signature analysis, inference of clonal dynamics and selection, and comparative models accounting for tissue and species context.
Experimental work includes sample preparation, laser-capture microdissection and DNA extraction with training. The post offers substantial ownership of a comparative genomics project and collaboration with the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Funding is available for three years initially; salary is £37,694–£46,049 annually. The application deadline is 21 October 2026.
Requirements
Submit through the university recruitment system, quoting PC51194. The role involves substantial computational genomics alongside experimental data generation; consult the linked further particulars for the full person specification.
