Activity-dependent regulation of clustered gamma protocadherins (c-γPCDH) expression during circuit assembly in Purkinje cells

Elena Baz Badillo, Vanessa Rouglan, Alexandre Favereaux, Mathieu Letellier · FENS Forum 2024

Neuronal circuits assemble in a non-random fashion, achieving specificity beyond cell-cell apposition. Two mechanisms have been classically proposed to fine-tune brain circuits: activity or genetics-dependent processes. Experimental evidence supports both options, suggesting a balanced contribution of each. In this study, we explored the interplay between synaptic activity and gene expression during developmental critical periods in olivo-cerebellar circuitry. Early postnatally, cerebellar Purkinje cells (PC) are connected by multiple climbing fibers (CF) emerging from the inferior olive in th

Cadherin-13 deficiency impacts murine serotonergic circuitries and cognitive function

Catharina Hamann, Hsing-Ping Ku, Klaus-Peter Lesch · FENS Forum 2024

Cadherin-13 (CDH13) is a member of the cadherin superfamily, which consists of cell-adhesion molecules. CDH13 is involved in the regulation of synapse formation and maintenance, as well as serotonergic neuron development. Serotonergic neurons mainly originate from the raphe nuclei in the hindbrain. In mice, CDH13 is first detected roughly halfway through the embryonic development in the hindbrain. Studies suggest a role of CDH13 in the pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental disorders. After previously investigating the role of CDH13 during embryonic development, we now aimed for the analysis of
