In Applied Mechanics and Behavioral Ecology

Investigate how animal communication shapes coordinated movement and collective behaviour in the Communication and Collective Movement group. Quantitative research combines tracking-collar and passive-acoustic data with computational analysis and, where appropriate, modelling. The fully funded doctorate is based in Konstanz for four years, with a flexible start in summer or autumn 2027, through the IMPRS Quantitative Behaviour, Ecology and Evolution programme.

The workshop examines Arctic glacier and Greenland ice-sheet changes using field measurements, remote sensing and modelling. A cross-cutting theme follows water from snowfall and rain through melt, glacier motion, runoff, ocean freshwater inputs and outburst floods. Participants contribute talks or posters in person. Registration is free for attendees staying at the venue; other participants pay a daily fee. Limited travel support is available to eligible early-career researchers, with applications due 1 November 2026. Hotel payments are due 10 December 2026.
