Hypothalamic POMC-TRPM2-mediated regulation of interscapular BAT thermogenesis

Ju Hwan Yang, Sang Won Park, Hyun Joon Kim, Dong Kun Lee · FENS Forum 2024

The major function of primary order neurons in the ARC of the hypothalamus is control of energy homeostasis. Among these neurons, POMC neurons play a significant role in controlling anorexigenic feeding behavior and upregulating energy expenditure. Additionally, TRPM2 is a well-established temperature sensor, but no evidence of regulation of BAT thermogenesis via POMCTRPM2 neurons in the ARC has been reported to date. We here investigated the role of ARC POMCTRPM2 in BAT thermogenesis. Through single-cell RT-PCR and IHC analyses, we confirmed that some POMC neurons express TRPM2. The specific

Role of EphrinB3 in POMC neurons in the control of energy and glucose homeostasis

Clémentine Pajot, Gwenaël Labouèbe, Yann Emmenegger, Angélique Vaucher, Bernard Thorens, Sophie Croizier · FENS Forum 2024

Proopiomelanocortin neurons have been primarily described as controlling feeding behavior, but accumulating evidence also showed a crucial role of these neurons in the control of glucose homeostasis. For this, and in addition of being able to sense peripheral signals, POMC neurons receive direct upstream excitatory (glutamate) and inhibitory (GABA) inputs coming from a plethora of brain areas. Remarkably, EphrinBs (EphrinB1, B2, B3) proteins are well-known actor of glutamatergic synapse formation and plasticity. A study from our group showed that the modulation of EphrinB1 a during development
