D1/D5 dopamine receptors support postsynaptic long-term GABAergic synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus

Patrycja Brzdąk, Katarzyna Lebida, Jerzy Mozrzymas · FENS Forum 2024

It is well known that dopamine is a significant player in regulation of various forms of glutamatergic synaptic plasticity. In particular, activation of D1/D5 dopamine receptors was shown to increase the magnitude of hippocampal excitatory long-term potentiation (LTP) (Hansen and Manahan-Vaughan, 2014). We have also demonstrated that D1/D5 dopamine receptors supports NMDA-dependent LTP selectively in st. oriens of the CA1 region (Brzdak et al., 2019). While involvement of dopamine receptors, especially D1/D5, in the excitatory plasticity is well established, their role in the GABAergic plastic

Possible interaction between noradrenergic transmission in the basolateral amygdala and dopaminergic transmission in the hippocampus in the modulation of initial memory consolidation

It has been demonstrated that noradrenergic activation of the basolateral amygdala (BLA) enhances the initial consolidation of memories in the hippocampus and upregulates the levels of activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein (Arc) - a molecular marker of memory-related changes in neuronal activity. However, by releasing both noradrenaline and dopamine in the hippocampus, the locus coeruleus could also influence the dynamics of memory consolidation. We set out to investigate the possible interaction between noradrenergic transmission in the BLA and dopaminergic transmission in the hi
