Statistical learning in auditory cortex and hippocampus

Xing Xiao, Livia de Hoz · FENS Forum 2024

The brain is sensitive to the structure of the surrounding environment (statistical learning) as reflected in differential responses to stimuli depending on their relation to other stimuli. For example, both the auditory cortex and hippocampus are sensitive to the probability of appearance of sounds in a sequence, a simple form of statistical learning. Here, we posed the question of whether these two structures are sensitive to different statistical features of the acoustic environment. Using Neuropixels probes to perform the largescale single cell electrophysiological recordings simultaneousl
