For these awards, nominees must be Canadian citizens or have held Canadian permanent-resident status for at least three years. Nomination requires an RSC Fellow or current College member, or the president, vice-president or CEO of an institutional member. A complete dossier includes the nomination form, appraisal, CV and three scientific references. Tory considers research mainly in the preceding eight years; Synge gives some preference to candidates no older than forty when candidates are otherwise strong.
