Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowships 2027

Eight-year fellowship support for researchers establishing an independent UK research career who have an ongoing need for flexible working. Eligible natural-science research includes biomedical sciences, physics, mathematics and engineering, excluding clinical and interventional human research, social sciences and humanities. Awards are expected to begin between 1 October 2027 and 1 January 2028. Submit through Flexi-Grant with host approval by 15:00 UK time on 29 October 2026.

Open to any nationality with a completed PhD and no more than six years of actual postdoctoral research experience at the deadline, allowing career breaks and part-time adjustments. Applicants must show a current need for flexibility, such as primary caring responsibilities or a clinically diagnosed health condition. Tenure-track, permanent and proleptic postholders, and researchers who hold or previously held an equivalent UK independent-group fellowship, are ineligible. The host must be an eligible UK higher-education, research-council, nonprofit research or public-sector research institution.
