About
Apply to join a sandpit developing small-satellite Earth-observation mission concepts using innovative sensors, data streams and cross-sector technologies. Around 30 participants will co-create projects addressing national security, societal and economic needs. Participation is the first stage of a funding pathway, not an automatic grant award. Attendance at all online and in-person sessions between 26 January and 10 February 2027 is mandatory. Expressions of interest close on 25 November 2026 at 16:00 UK time.
Eligibility
Covers: Selected teams may apply for 11-month pump-priming projects starting 1 May 2027; UKRI funds 80% of full economic cost. £1.87 million is the total fund, not an individual award.
UK eligible research organisation required.
Applicants must meet UKRI individual eligibility and be based at a research organisation with standard UKRI funding eligibility. UK businesses, government departments, third-sector and international organisations cannot submit an expression of interest; they may be project partners.
