About

Postdoc.Mobility fellowships from the Swiss National Science Foundation support researchers with a doctorate who want to conduct a research stay abroad to deepen their knowledge, extend their scientific network and independence, and strengthen their profile for a future scientific career in Switzerland. The fellowship covers subsistence costs, a flat rate for travel and a possible contribution to research and conference costs, normally for 24 months; holders can then apply for a return grant of 3 to 12 months with salary and social security contributions at a Swiss higher education research centre. Applications are submitted through mySNF. The SNSF is reforming its career funding: the final Postdoc.Mobility submission deadline is set for August 2027 and a new postdoctoral scheme follows in 2028.

Eligibility

Covers: Subsistence costs, travel flat rate and possible research and conference contribution for normally 24 months; optional 3-12 month return grant with salary and social security contributions.

Research stay at a host institution abroad (not the institution of education); the return grant is held at a Swiss higher education research centre.

Nationality or residence: Swiss citizens, C-permit holders and spouses or registered partners of Swiss nationals; others only with a Swiss doctorate or state examination and no prior postdoctoral position abroad.

Applicants need Swiss citizenship, a Swiss C permit, or marriage or registered partnership with a Swiss national; others are eligible if their doctorate (or state examination) is from a Swiss institution and they have not held a postdoctoral position abroad before the submission deadline. The stay cannot be at the institution of education.
