About

Aalto University's Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation (School of Electrical Engineering) seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in power electronics. The appointee advances the design of power electronic converters — novel main-circuit topologies, passive components, gate-driver systems, prototyping and experimental validation — for efficient, reliable, compact and resource-conscious electrical energy conversion in electric drives, charging, energy storage, electricity-to-heat conversion, data centres and sustainable transport, including wide-bandgap semiconductors and AI-assisted converter design.

The role includes building an independent research group, acquiring external funding, supervising doctoral and master's students, and teaching about two courses per year on converter topologies and related topics, with collaboration opportunities across the Aalto House of Energy Transition, the Aalto House of AI and Finland's industrial power electronics ecosystem. The full-time, fixed-term position is at the assistant professor level of Aalto's tenure track, a supported pathway towards a permanent professorship.

Applications are due by 29 November 2026.

Requirements

Doctoral degree in electrical engineering, power electronics or a closely related field; expertise in converter topologies and modelling, AI-assisted converter design and optimisation, high-frequency and high-power-density conversion with magnetics and passives integration, hardware integration and prototyping, or SiC/GaN wide-bandgap devices; high-quality publications; an original research vision; teaching and supervision experience or potential; excellent English.
