About

A salaried doctoral position in the Bok lab within the Lund Vision Group, a cluster of eight labs studying the design and evolution of eyes across the animal kingdom. The project investigates the function and evolution of possible colour receptors and their role in the visual ecology of polychaete worms and cephalopods (firefly squid). It combines behavioural experiments on colour and polarisation stimuli at field stations in Italy and Japan; single-nucleus transcriptomics to localise photoreceptor and visual interneuron classes in the retina and optic lobe; and serial block-face electron microscopy connectomics to map visual circuits, which then guide electrophysiological recordings of putative colour- and polarisation-opponent neurons.

Up to 20% of time may go to teaching (reference PA2026/3057).

Requirements

Admission to third-cycle studies in Biology (second-cycle degree or 240 credits including 60 at second-cycle level, or equivalent).
