Dr. Sam Neymotin, Nathan Kline Institute

The scientist will build detailed models of cortical systems, including 1) the auditory thalamocortical system, and 2) hippocampal and related brain areas utilized in spatial navigation. In each project the goal is to understand how the neural circuit dynamics support task-relevant computations and alterations in disease, develop biologically-inspired learning algorithms to train the models and connected agents to perform behaviors. The models are optimized using experimental data, and used to develop closed-loop neuromodulation strategies to restore pathological circuit dynamics (from in silico disease models) to a physiological baseline.
