Job Description

A highly motivated postdoctoral fellow is sought to train in the lab of James Hyman Ph.D. in the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The position will work on funded projects examining alterations to hippocampal and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) network activity caused by chronic neuroinflammation, hyperglycemia, aging, and Alzheimer's disease. The project will involve in vivo electrophysiological recordings, oscillatory and neural information processing analysis, and behavioral modeling. Specifically, duties will included recording from the hippocampus and cortex in multiple animal models, during the completion of an array of tasks designed to assess deficits in memory and cognition. There is a special concentration on the role of hippocampal theta rhythm and theta-related interactions with the ACC, cognitive control, memory consolidation and retrieval, and working memory. Successful applicants are expected to play a central role as part of a collaborative team examining these questions from multiple different avenues of investigation, including single cell proteomics. The applicant should have superior presentation and interpersonal skills. The applicant should have an extensive track record of successful publications and presentations. Experience with in vivo electrophysiological recording techniques, stereotaxic surgery, and behavior are preferred. Extensive experience with coding and mathematical analysis (Matlab or other) is important regardless of electrophysiological experience. We are looking for someone who is extremely motivated and ready hit the ground running. The University of Nevada Las Vegas has the most diverse student body in the country and greatly values diversity and inclusion, minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. UNLV offers a diverse research environment with many opportunities to collaborate.
