About
Three-year PhD fellowship in the Section for Theoretical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo (Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences), within the Research Council of Norway project Molecular Atmospheric Chemistry on Alien Worlds (MACAW). Using quantum chemistry on high-performance computing resources, the project studies chemical reactions, photochemistry, spectral signatures for potential detection and condensation mechanisms of molecules in atmospheres beyond that of contemporary Earth, with a focus on sulfur and chlorine chemistry and isotopic fractionation.
The work is primarily computational, using electronic-structure methods to study photochemical and thermal reaction mechanisms and to quantify reaction rates, UV-Vis spectra and other molecular properties, with extensive international collaboration. Start no later than 1 March 2027; salary NOK 550,800-595,000.
Requirements
Master's degree or equivalent in chemistry, physics, nanoscience or related fields; fluent English; experience with computational resources and code.
