About
A PhD position in the Limnology programme, Department of Ecology and Genetics, Uppsala University. Phytoplankton underpin lake food webs, and their community composition shifts through the year with physical, chemical and predation pressures, moderated by functional traits. The student will use process-based biogeochemical models to study how climate warming, eutrophication and extreme weather alter successional patterns, identify conditions that open windows of opportunity for particular functional groups, and assess likely future changes.
The results aim to improve forecasts of phytoplankton communities with direct relevance to lake ecosystem functioning and drinking-water provision. Start 1 April 2027 (reference UFV-PA 2026/2846).
Requirements
Admission requirements for third-cycle studies in biology as stated in the advert; interest in process-based biogeochemical modelling.
