About
Seventeen-month postdoctoral contract at the Unité de Catalyse et de Chimie du Solide (UCCS) on hybrid catalysis in microreactors for converting glucose into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF). The postdoc will select and immobilise chemical catalysts for the dehydration of fructose to 5-HMF, study the coupling between the two catalytic steps, and measure the overall performance of a three-phase reactor for the glucose-to-5-HMF transformation with a view to modelling the system.
Work includes a literature review to identify suitable catalysts considering immobilisation potential, stability and compatibility with operating conditions; testing their reactivity in batch; developing immobilisation strategies on suitable supports or directly on reactor surfaces; evaluating immobilised catalysts in single-phase and then biphasic reactors; studying the hybrid three-phase reactor as a whole; and presenting results in project meetings, reports and publications.
Start date 1 February 2027.
Requirements
PhD in materials chemistry, chemical engineering and/or catalysis; strong experimental skills and a good grounding in catalysis; experience in catalyst synthesis or immobilisation, physicochemical characterisation and flow systems is an asset.
