About
The Event-Driven Perception for Robotics research unit, coordinated by Chiara Bartolozzi at IIT's Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems in Genoa, develops neuromorphic technologies that let robots act quickly, robustly and efficiently in uncontrolled environments, including event-driven vision, neuromorphic touch and end-to-end neuromorphic robots from perception to control. Within the Horizon Europe project SHIFT, the team will equip a snake-like robot with neuromorphic tactile and proprioceptive sensors and develop spiking neural networks that implement local reflexes and support robot state estimation and action planning, as a platform for studying embodied intelligence through the interplay of neural computation, morphology, sensing, actuation and environment.
The work involves neuromorphic sensory encoding, spiking-network computing and learning for closed-loop sensorimotor systems, and neuromorphic circuit design, in collaboration with IIT's MESH facility. The 24-month postdoc pays a gross annual salary of 35,000 to 45,000 euros and is part of IIT's Brain and Machines flagship.
Requirements
PhD in computational neuroscience, neuromorphic computing and engineering, computer science or similar; documented experience in spiking neural networks, spike-driven learning and/or mixed-mode neuromorphic circuit design; strong publication record; good spoken and written English. Python skills and experience supervising students are additional assets. Applications include a detailed CV, cover letter and two reference letters.
