About

The Ecology group of Prof. Sabine Rumpf in the Department of Environmental Sciences offers a fully funded two-year postdoc (80-100%) in ecological modelling under global change. Mountain plant species are shifting their ranges to track climate but most lag behind climatic trends, and how long these accrued lags would take to reach a new equilibrium remains unknown. The postdoc will model the relaxation times of plant range-shift lags across Europe's mountain ranges using the group's spatially explicit dataset of species-specific shifts and lags over recent decades, collaborate with researchers at other institutions, co-supervise PhD and MSc students and contribute to teaching.

The position starts between February and April 2027; the application deadline is 19 November 2026.

Requirements

PhD in ecology, botany, biogeography, environmental science, computational biology or a related field; very good statistical analysis and modelling skills (preferably R) and experience handling large databases; experience in mountain plant ecology or range-shift analysis is an asset; excellent English.
