About
Dr. Lauren Hennelly's lab in the Department of BioSciences at Rice University is hiring a postdoctoral research associate in evolutionary, population and conservation genomics of mammals. The project analyses modern and historical or ancient genomic datasets with computational methods to assess the patterns and evolutionary consequences of hybridization between canid species, including local ancestry, population structure, phylogenomics, introgression and demographic history.
The lab integrates population genomic data, museum and ancient DNA, fieldwork and phenotypic data to study species' evolutionary histories, how anthropogenic change alters their evolutionary trajectories, and the molecular basis of complex and adaptive traits. The associate will publish and present, mentor students, help coordinate permitting and sample collection, and develop grant-writing and outreach experience. The initial contract is one year, renewable for one more; in-person work in Houston is preferred, with hybrid or fully remote work possible (remote only for residents of approved states); annual hiring range $55,000-$60,000.
Requirements
PhD in evolutionary biology, genomics, ecology, genetics or a related field by the start date; background in population, evolutionary or conservation genomics; experience analysing large genomic datasets with R and slurm on Linux clusters; knowledge of population-genetic theory. Apply through the posting (resume attached) and email a one-page cover letter, CV and three references to Dr. Hennelly.
