Postdoctoral associate position
Postdoctoral Positions in Time-Domain Astronomy and Resolved Stellar Populations
Northwestern University, CIERA
About
Northwestern University's Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) invites applications for two postdoctoral associate positions in transient astronomy starting in fall 2027, for two years with a possible third. One position works with Prof. Charles Kilpatrick on resolved massive stars and supernova progenitors, contributing to HST Treasury imaging of nearby galaxies, Roman surveys of stellar populations and JWST programmes, with Rubin/LSST overlap science.
The other works with Profs. Tarraneh Eftekhari and Wen-fai Fong for the Fast and Fortunate for FRB Follow-up (F4) team on fast radio bursts, their host galaxies and multi-wavelength counterparts, leading observations, data reduction, analysis and modelling. Northwestern has institutional access to Keck, MMT and Magellan. Applications received by 18 December 2026 receive full consideration.
Requirements
Ph.D. completed before appointment. Observational experience, pipeline development for NASA imaging and/or other reduction and analysis techniques are encouraged. Application via AJO (Job ID 32643): cover letter naming the position(s) of interest (Kilpatrick or Fong/Eftekhari), CV, statement of research accomplishments and plans (up to 5 pages) and at least three letters of recommendation.
