About

The Department of Physics at the University of Jyväskylä seeks a postdoctoral researcher in accelerator-based neutron physics for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). The project realises a new neutron beam line for the department's new 3 MV Tandetron accelerator, due for delivery by the end of 2026; the main goal of the beam line, based on the 7Li(p,n) reaction, is pre-clinical BNCT studies. The postdoc is mainly responsible for the neutron beam line design, especially the lithium target and beam shaping assembly, including simulations and continued design of the beamline, safety shielding and optimisation of neutron production and moderation.

Conference and research visits abroad are encouraged, limited teaching or supervision may be included, and the department supports applications for the postdoc's own research funding. The project-based fixed-term position lasts two years from 4 January 2027 or as agreed, at demand level 5 with a salary of approximately €3,700–4,300 per month (gross). Applications are due by 20 November 2026.

Requirements

PhD in physics or applied physics or an equivalent engineering degree, completed before the start date; good experimental and/or simulation skills in neutron physics and/or BNCT; preferably prior expertise in neutron production target design and radiation safety.
