About
Prof. Anu Eskelinen's Global Change and Biotic Interactions Ecology group at the University of Oulu recruits a postdoctoral researcher for the Research Council of Finland project Mechanisms of Plant Biodiversity Change. The project asks how spatial context, dispersal in space and time, biotic interactions (competition, herbivory) and intraspecific trait change drive heterogeneous responses of plant biodiversity to global change factors such as climate warming and nutrient enrichment — for example the role of seed banks in maintaining diversity, of competition for light, litter and loss of herbivory in diversity decline, and of intraspecific trait change in modifying the effects of climatic change.
The postdoc analyses existing data from two long-term experiments, the eDiValo experiment on light and plant community diversity and a tundra experiment manipulating temperature, grazing and nutrients, and publishes in leading international journals; duties may include teaching and co-supervision. The fixed-term two-year position starts on 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible (start date negotiable), with a starting gross salary of about €3,900–4,300 per month and a six-month trial period.
The last application date is 15 November 2026.
Requirements
PhD in plant community ecology or an equivalent field obtained within the past 10 years.
