Postdoctoral Researcher position in Theory Group at IFAE

The IFAE theory group invites applications for one to two postdoctoral positions on theoretical developments for searches of high-frequency gravitational waves in electromagnetic cavities, funded by the ERC Synergy Grant GravNet (A Global Network for the Search for High Frequency Gravitational Waves). GravNet optimises such searches in a network of cavities or other set-ups, revisiting source characterisation, detector response, network distribution and sensing strategies (in particular quantum sensing) to build the most precise high-frequency gravitational-wave detector.

It is led by Diego Blas (IFAE/ICREA), Dima Budker (U. Mainz), Claudio Gatti (LNF) and Matthias Schott (U. Bonn, leading PI). The postdocs join the GravNet-IFAE group responsible for all theoretical aspects: complete modelling and simulation of detector response to gravitational waves from different sources, realistic sensitivity calculations and exploration of network configurations to design GravNet’s detection strategy. Full-time temporary contract for doctoral researchers, starting from September 2027 (Fall 2027).

PhD in Physics or a related field by the start of the contract; research expertise in theoretical physics; experience with theoretical work on searches for BSM physics or gravitational-wave physics in laboratory set-ups (especially quantum sensing) is welcome.
