Job Description

Our laboratory studies brain development and maturation. Our research is focused on understanding how complicated brain structures and connections are established and maintained to ensure mature adult functions. As part of our work, we develop novel 3D imaging techniques (iDISCO family protocols) to visualize diverse brain structures in their entirety, and to elucidate how these structures integrate and subserve circuitry and systems-level functions. We further investigate how distinct brain structures may get disrupted by mutations and disease. We employ multiple approaches, including genetics and modern histology, cellular and molecular biology, advanced volumetric imaging, and big-data analysis using machine learning, to carry out studies in animal models and human patient samples.

We are a vibrant and multidisciplinary team with complementary expertise, which enables us to pursue cutting-edge research spanning basic systematic profiling of the brain to pathological discovery in a range of neurological disorders. Our work is supported by Mount Sinai, BRAIN Initiative Network, and other funding resources. We are currently seeking postdoctoral candidates motivated in exploring novel and advanced technologies for high impact research in these possible directions:
1. Chemical engineering to improve tissue clearing, labeling and imaging technique for diverse biomedical applications, with a focus on human brain tissues (preferred background: chemistry, biochemistry, or neuroscience).
2. Scaling and advancing computational approach to process large volume imaging datasets for efficient extraction and accurate quantification of 3D multi-modality information (preferred background: engineering, computer science, math and physics).
3. Comprehensive profiling of entire brain structures with defined genetic or molecular identity, to elucidate how these structures integrate with the rest of the body for systems-level regulation, and to facilitate mechanistic studies in development and disease (preferred background: neuroscience, genetics, cell biology).

We offer a 2-year position, renewable up to 5 years. To learn more about us and our work, please visit our website:
