About
The School of Physics and Astronomy at Monash University seeks a research fellow in transient astrophysics. The project investigates r-process element production in kilonovae from neutron-star mergers and in collapsars from rapidly rotating massive stars, connecting observations with nucleosynthesis and multi-messenger models. The fellow will collaborate with Monash’s observational transient group, the OzGrav transients working group and international researchers in supernova physics and stellar evolution.
This Clayton-based, full-time Level A appointment lasts two years, with a possible one-year extension, and pays AUD 86,195–116,981 per year plus 17% employer superannuation. Address the key selection criteria in the online application. Applications close at 11:55 pm AEDT on 27 October 2026.
Requirements
Doctoral qualification in astrophysics, physics or a closely related field; experience in transient astronomy, observational data analysis, comparing multi-wavelength observations with models and/or multi-messenger science; refereed publication record, analytical and manuscript preparation skills, planning and communication skills.
