About

Senior Scientist position in the Matos laboratory at the Max Perutz Labs, University of Vienna. The lab studies the molecular mechanisms that control meiotic chromosome organisation and homologous recombination: how recombination intermediates are formed and processed, how meiotic crossovers are generated, and how chromosome architecture and recombination are coordinated for accurate chromosome segregation. The Senior Scientist leads mechanistic projects in DNA repair, homologous recombination and chromosome biology.

The focus is expression, purification and in vitro reconstitution of recombination proteins and multi-protein complexes, quantitative biochemical assays, and protein–protein and protein–DNA interactions, ideally complemented by cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography or related structural approaches. The role includes supervising Bachelor, Master and PhD students, teaching molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics, and supporting specialised laboratory workflows.

Full-time, starting 11 January 2027.

Requirements

PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, genetics, cell biology or a related field; strong background in DNA repair, homologous recombination or chromosome biology; extensive hands-on protein expression, purification and biochemical reconstitution; quantitative biochemical assays with multi-protein complexes; structural biology highly desirable; strong publication record; experience mentoring students; excellent English (German beneficial).
