Abstract

The transition from inspiral through merger to ringdown remains a challenge for black-hole waveform models. This seminar introduces perturbation theory and Green's functions, then develops an analytical description of how dynamical sources excite quasinormal modes for generic orbits, including eccentric trajectories. It also examines the prompt response needed to describe the merger signal accurately.
