Abstract

Recasting gravity in relation to a topological theory offers useful routes toward quantization. This seminar first explains how simplicity constraints lead to the EPRL spinfoam model of four-dimensional gravity. It then explores an alternative construction in which general relativity emerges by gauging Lorentz symmetry, considering its continuum relationships and progress toward a discrete formulation.
