The hippocampus is a well-studied structure, important for spatial navigation, learning, and memory. The hippocampus, however, still contains secrets and does not work in a vacuum. LINCs are a novel form of long-range inhibitory neuron in the hippocampus, which may be important for coordinating activity between the hippocampus and downstream structures. The cerebellum, while classically viewed as a motor structure, is being increasingly recognized for its impact on cognitive domains.
