How to count states in gravity

Abstract

Why should a Euclidean gravitational path integral count quantum states and reproduce thermal entropy? This seminar constructs states and a nonperturbative Hilbert-space basis to compare the Gibbons-Hawking prescription with an explicit thermal trace. A central step examines factorization between two disconnected asymptotic boundaries and its implications for the state-counting interpretation.
