Abstract
Small black holes can spiral into supermassive ones, producing extreme-mass-ratio signals relevant to LISA. This seminar examines how stellar encounters and perturbations from a second supermassive black hole work together to drive such events. It considers the resulting merger rates and gravitational-wave background, together with implications for stars disrupted near massive black holes.
