Abstract

Sara Nowakowski and Helena Hachul examine the psychological and physiological mechanisms of sleep disturbance during menopause. The session considers vasomotor symptoms, declining estrogen and progesterone, altered melatonin secretion and changes in circadian timing, alongside mood, anxiety and psychosocial contributors. It evaluates non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches to sleep complaints, weighing potential benefits and risks. Fiona Baker moderates the two presentations and audience discussion.
