Abstract
Jay Rubin examines the challenges of translating Haruki Murakami’s Japanese prose. Although Murakami’s style bears a strong American and English-language influence, translating it still reveals difficulties rooted in the historical development of Japanese. The lecture explores this relationship between literary style, language history and translation.
