Abstract
This talk derives an analytical expression for semiclassical energy flux during the collapse of a spherical null shell. The calculation finds that outgoing flux vanishes as the shell approaches the horizon, locating the development of Hawking emission in a wider strong-field region. It discusses the resulting limits on claims that semiclassical backreaction prevents horizon formation.
