Thermodynamics of gravity at finite cutoff

Boundary conditions determine how thermodynamic ensembles can be defined for gravitational systems. This seminar examines de Sitter space with a timelike boundary and geometries with conformal boundary conditions. High-temperature free energies are compared with thermal effective-field-theory predictions, including phases with cosmic-type horizons larger than the system boundary.
