Attempt to pharmacologically induce neurovascular uncoupling in aged, experienced rats

Bence Tamás Varga, Attila Gáspár, Aliz Judit Ernyey, Barbara Hutka, Tekla Brigitta Tajti, Levente Kollár, Péter Kovács, Zoltán Sándor Zádori, István Gyertyán · FENS Forum 2024

Animal models of neurovascular uncoupling (NVU) would be important tools for developing drugs in neurodegenerative disorders. Pharmacologically induced NVU was established in mice [Tarantini et al., 2015] but only preliminary results are available in rats [Varga et al., 2022]. In the current study we attempted to evoke NVU in a translationally relevant rat population. We used 28-month-old male Long-Evans rats with learning history and stable performance in 5-choice serial reaction time task (5-CSRTT). Morris water-maze (MWM), pot jumping, and touchscreen pairwise discrimination. NVU was induced

Role of the interneurons in prefrontal-based attentional dysfunctions in nicotine addiction

Kevin Letort, Caroline Vouillac-Mendoza, Nathalie Dutheil, Karine Guillem · FENS Forum 2024

The prefrontal cortex (PFC) plays a critical role in attentional processes in humans and animals. Neuroimaging studies have reported that cigarette smokers have reduced prefrontal cortex (PFC) function and impaired attention, suggesting that dysfunction in the PFC may underlie these attentional deficits. However, little is known about the PFC neuronal processes underlying attentional performance and their alterations following nicotine exposure. Here, we first assessed the long-term effects of nicotine intake escalation and withdrawal on attentional performance. Rats were trained in a 5-choice
