An ergonomic rodent head fixation apparatus for closed-loop cursor control

Halise Erten, Hasan Berke Bilki, Hilal Bulut, Bihter Özhan, Ahsan Ayyaz, Mehmet Kocatürk · FENS Forum 2024

Control of cursor on a PC monitor using a joystick is a common paradigm to elucidate the neural mechanisms of visuomotor skill learning and performance in human and non-human primates. However, this paradigm, even for reaching targets in one-dimensional space, has not been available for rodents yet. In this work, we present an ergonomic head fixation apparatus for Wistar rats to control a cursor on a PC monitor by operating two levers for acquiring stationary targets. All six axes of the apparatus, composed of V-slot aluminum profiles and 3D-printed parts, are easily adjustable according to th

A fully flexible, open-source, Python-based rodent behavior platform

Alexander Wallerus, Sofia Castro E Almeida, Aron Koszeghy, Arsenii Petryk, Maja Überegger, Johannes Passecker · FENS Forum 2024

Investigating the contribution of various neuronal circuits to our information processing, learning, and actions is often limited by the difficulty of providing precise and scalable complex experiences with detailed behavior measurements.Despite recent advances, existing behavior platforms are typically optimized for few, often simple tasks with constrained extendability, and priced prohibitively for scale, while behavior tracking requires work intensive labeling to generate situation-specific training data. Here, we present work on two novel open and flexible tools to enable easier pursuit of
