Dentate granule cell neurogenesis in adult mice following denervation in the entorhinal cortex lesion model

Fran Božić, Dinko Smilović, Mario Zelić, Marija Renić, Mario Vukšić · FENS Forum 2024

The entorhinal cortex lesion is a validated model for studying neuronal, dendritic and spine remodelling of dentate gyrus granule cells after denervation. Our research aims to investigate the effect of the layer-selective denervation of the dentate gyrus on the proliferation and differentiation of neurons in the granule cell layer, as the mechanisms that drive the remodelling due to the loss of input are not yet understood. Therefore, in anaesthetised adult male C57Bl/6 mice, the transection of the perforant pathway was performed, resulting in the layer-specific denervation of dentate granule

Studying the effects of mild and severe lysine deficiency on hippocampal-related functions

Rim Jaber, Carla El-Mallah, Alaa El-Makkawi, Tamara Fahs, Maram Chaaban, Christina Mary Kourie, Layal Jaafar, Naim Kattour, Omar Obeid, Wassim Abou Kheir · FENS Forum 2024

Numerous reports have correlated lysine deficiency with cognitive decline; however, the effect of lysine deficiency on hippocampal neurogenesis has not yet been addressed in the literature. This study hypothesizes the impairment of hippocampal neurogenesis and thus hippocampal-related functions due to mild and severe induced dietary lysine deficiency. Here, we aim to observe the effect of mild and severe lysine deficiency on rodents' cognitive functions, memory, and adult hippocampal neurogenesis. In this project, male adult Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three randomized groups (8 rats
