Topic: calibration

Design, test and analyse instruments measuring energetic particles in space. The appointment combines space-plasma research with laboratory testing, calibration and support for flight instrumentation.

This capacity-building workshop trains graduate students and early-career researchers to analyse public JWST observations. Lectures and practical tutorials cover NIRCam, NIRSpec and MIRI, data reduction, calibration and archival access. Mentored projects investigate exoplanet atmospheres, brown dwarfs and galaxy evolution, culminating in research presentations. The programme particularly supports participants from Latin America. Selected attendees pay no registration fee; meals are covered, and accommodation is provided for selected non-local participants.

Assess distribution models with complementary measures of discrimination, classification, explanatory power and calibration. Interactive R exercises show why evaluation should reflect species’ ecological and geographic characteristics rather than relying on a single statistic. Participants validate models beyond their training areas, including spatial block cross-validation, and may work with their own observed and predicted values or supplied examples. Live sessions: 20 and 22 October, 10:00–14:00, Europe/Madrid (CEST, UTC+02:00); eight teaching hours. English-language live online course; F
