Plasticity of inhibitory transmission from L1 interneurons of the mouse visual cortex

Adrianna Nozownik, Andrea Aguirre, Alberto Bacci, Joana Lourenço · FENS Forum 2024

A coherent representation of the external world requires the integration of sensory (bottom-up) input with contextual (top-down) information. Contextual signals reach primary cortical sensory areas through layer 1 (L1), the outermost layer of the neocortex. L1 harbors somas of GABAergic interneurons (INs), positioned among dendritic tufts of pyramidal neurons (PNs) and projections originating from cortical and subcortical areas. Neuron-derived neurotrophic factor (NDNF) is expressed by ~70% of the L1 IN population, which was shown to be activated by incoming top-down information. However, how

Role of the cerebello-prefrontal communication in the temporal prediction of events

Pierre Le Cabec, Federica Lareno-Faccini, Mathieu Pasquet, Dominique Ciocca, Anne Giersch · FENS Forum 2024

One of the key feature of the cerebellar computation is its abilities to predict the sensory consequences of motor commands through the cerebro-cerebello-cortical loop. Prediction capabilities of the cerebellum extend to non-motor functions as attested by an extensive bidirectional connectivity between the cerebellum and the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). We hypothesize that the cerebellum make predictions based on contextual and goal-directed information enabling better integration in the PFC and an overall increase efficiency in time related actions. Our aim is to understand better the comm
