Chemogenetic activation of oligodendrocytes modulates behavioural processes

Stefano Calovi, Carla Peiró, Alba Legarda, Maria Villafranca-Faus, Pablo Reyes-Velazquez, Edgar Soria-Gomez, Maria Domercq · FENS Forum 2024

Experience and neuronal activity can induce dynamic changes in myelination during development and in adult life, suggesting a new form of plasticity to adapt brain function to environmental stimuli. Myelin remodeling is driven mainly by newly-formed oligodendrocytes from precursors cells. However, the role of mature oligodendrocytes in plastic changes of myelin is less known. In order to analyze the role of mature oligodendrocytes, we have used inducible transgenic mice expressing the DREADD receptor hM3Dq in PLP+ myelinating cells. In vivo chronic CNO treatment shortened the nodes of Ranvier

Parvalbumin interneurons protect peritumoral tissue from glioblastoma growth

While for many years cancer research has mainly focused on targeting tumoral cells, recent studies have confirmed that the tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a major role in controlling glioma growth. Indeed, several studies have highlighted that the synaptic activity of pyramidal, glutamatergic neurons potently drives Glioblastoma (GB) proliferation. However, the role played by other neuronal cell types is still poorly understood. Here, we wanted to dissect the role of peritumoral interneurons in GB development. Taking advantage of chemogenetics, we modulated the activity of parvalbumin (PV)-
