The subiculum > hypothalamic path has critical roles in expressing defensive responses in a wide range of threatening situations. This path is engaged during exposure to a natural predator or its context, social defeat, and contexts related to physically harmful events. Previous data have shown that the ventral and intermediate subiculum provide strong projections to a continuum formed by the anterior hypothalamic nucleus (AHN) and juxtadorsomedial part of the lateral hypothalamic area (LHAjd). By combining track tracing, chemogenetic, and calcium imaging experiments, we focused on differen

Ascending projections emanating from the median raphe (MR) are implicated in numerous brain functions but the cortical control of the raphe complex is largely unexplored. A main cortical input of the MR is the prefrontal cortex, a key region on top of the brain’s action network. The anterior cingulate–one subregion of the PFC formation–specifically plays role in the fromation of contextual fear, error detection and evaluation of effort/reward cost. Spatial memory supported by ACC-hippocampus (HC) communication is essential for executing these behaviours. The MR can be a key link between the PF

Alpha-synuclein (αSyn)-related pathology crucially contributes to the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD), leading to progressive neuronal populations loss in specific brain regions. This results in the presence of both motor and non-motor symptoms in PD patients. Anxiety occurs at an early stage of the disease and is one of the most frequent neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with PD, indicating pathology in the cortico-limbic system. This study aimed to decipher that the spread of αSyn pathology to a given brain region is sufficient to induce non-motor symptoms observed in PD patient
