Danio rerio (zebrafish) is a model for studying neurophysiological development and gene mutation consequences. Zebrafish possesses orthologs of human NMDA receptor subunit genes, including grin2Aa and grin2Ab for GRIN2A. The grin2Ab knockout strain created via CRISPR-Cas9, and the grin2Aa knockout were investigated for spatial and temporal gene expression and swimming behavior. Whole-mount in situ hybridization (WISH) was performed on wild-type (WT) zebrafish larvae aged 1, 3, and 5 days post fertilization (dpf). The results indicated minimal expression of both genes at 1 dpf. By 3 dpf, grin2A

Background:Diet-induced inflammation, particularly from high-fat (HF) diet, is widely recognized as a contributing factor to neurological impairments and neurodegenerative disorders. Melanotan-II (MT-II), which targets and activates melanotropin receptors, may exert neuromodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. Yet, the role of melanotropins in countering the diet-induced effects remain largely unexplored. Objective:The study investigates the possible relationship among diet, Melanotan-II (MT-II), a melanotropin receptor analog, and the behavior of zebrafish (Danio rerio). Methods:Zebrafish wer

The salience of multisensory information plays a key role in the behavioral performance of animals. Specifically, Danio rerio (zebrafish) utilizes sensory feedback from multiple modalities to regulate their target tracking behavior during rheotaxis. We have previously shown that zebrafish tracks the trajectories of a D-shaped tube that obscure the flow during their innate rheotaxis. We investigate the impact of the quality of multisensory information on the target tracking performance of zebrafish within a custom-built swim tunnel. To achieve this, we use a transparent D-shaped tube to obscure

Locomotion is crucial for an animal’s survival. Despite its importance, our understanding of how movement is generated is limited. Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a commonly used animal to study the spinal control of movement. Many neuronal populations found in zebrafish are evolutionarily conserved across species, including mammals. Even as early as 4-5 days post fertilization, larval zebrafish display a wide range of swimming speeds measured in tail beat frequencies, making it a great model to study locomotor control. Experimental studies have identified several populations of spinal neurons comp

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a commonly used thermoplastic in industry due to its excellent malleability and thermal stability, making it extensively employed in packaging manufacturing. Inadequate disposal of PET packaging in the environment and natural physical-chemical processes leads to the formation of smaller particles known as PET micro and nanoplastics (MNPs). The reduced dimensions enhance particle bioavailability and, subsequently, their reactivity. This study involved chemical degradation of PET using trifluoroacetic acid to assess the impact of exposure to varying concentrat
