In Aquatic Ecology and Behavioral Ecology

The workshop examines Arctic glacier and Greenland ice-sheet changes using field measurements, remote sensing and modelling. A cross-cutting theme follows water from snowfall and rain through melt, glacier motion, runoff, ocean freshwater inputs and outburst floods. Participants contribute talks or posters in person. Registration is free for attendees staying at the venue; other participants pay a daily fee. Limited travel support is available to eligible early-career researchers, with applications due 1 November 2026. Hotel payments are due 10 December 2026.

Understanding the visual demands of underwater habitats for aquatic animals used in neuroscience research

Tod Thiele and Dr. Emily Cooper · Tod Thiele: University of Toronto Scarborough; Emily Cooper: University of California, Berkeley

Zebrafish and cichlids are popular models in visual neuroscience, due to their amenability to advanced research tools and their diverse set of visually guided behaviours. It is often asserted that animals’ neural systems are adapted to the statistical regularities in their natural environments, but relatively little is known about the visual spatiotemporal features in the underwater habitats that nurtured these fish. To address this gap, we have embarked on an examination of underwater habitats in northeastern India and Lake Tanganyika (Zambia), where zebrafish and cichlids are native. In this
