Multi-object memory and prediction in the primate brain

Nicholas Watters, John Gabel, Joshua Tenenbaum, Mehrdad Jazayeri · COSYNE 2023

Primates excel at reasoning about physical scenes comprised of objects, flexibly generalizing to novel compositions of objects. Many cognitive theories attribute this capacity to structured representations in working memory called “object files” that encode object features in independent subspaces that can be readily retrieved and processed. However, these theories remain largely un-tested in the primate brain. We developed a task for non-human primates (NHPs) that requires remembering the positions and identities of multiple objects on a visual display. In some conditions the objects move und

Oculomotor vergence system through fMRI in persons with binocularly normal vision and persistent post-concussive symptoms with convergence insufficiency

Ayushi Sangoi, Farzin Hajebrahimi, Suril Gohel, Mitchell Scheiman, Arlene Goodman, Melissa Noble, Tara Alvarez · FENS Forum 2024

The oculomotor vergence system controls disjunctive eye rotation of convergence (inwards) and divergence (outwards). Convergence Insufficiency (CI) is a binocular vision disorder that exists in 4-17% of the general population. CI incidence rates increase dramatically to ~50% of patients with persistent post-concussive symptoms (PPCS). Understanding the oculomotor vergence neural system in these groups can lead to improved oculomotor therapeutic interventions.10 binocularly normal vision (BNV) persons (17-22 years old) and 10 PPCS-CI (15-23 years old) participated in this study.
