Dietary restriction rescues adaptive behaviors in PTSD-like rats

Amir Benhos, Maja Snippe Strauss, Eden Eldar, Gal Richter-Levin · FENS Forum 2024

Dietary restriction (DR), has been shown to improve brain health and function, partly by enhancing GABAergic function and improving the excitation-inhibition balance. However, very few neuro-behavioral studies have explored the beneficial effects of DR outside models of age-related neuropathologies. Therefore, here, we set out to explore DR's-therapeutic potential for stress-induced psychopathologies, by utilizing the "Individual behavioral profiling" approach. Towards that end, after exposing the animals to stress, an “individual Behavioral Profiling” analysis was used to identify, prior to t

GABAergic interneurons (INs) highly impact cortical development. For instance, early postnatal dysregulation of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)- expressing GABAergic INs has been shown to impair sensory processing and learning, emerging from adolescence on. Thus, investigating the functional maturation and network integration of VIP-INs is important for understanding brain development. Here, we studied developmental changes in passive and active membrane parameters of VIP-INs and their network integration into the developing neocortex with an emphasised focus on the maturation of their
