Effect of acute and chronic activation of relaxin-3 receptor (RXFP3) on contextual fear acquisition and extinction in the rat retrosplenial cortex

Mónica Navarro Sánchez, Isis Gil-Miravet, Daniel Montero-Caballero, Mohamed Aly Ebraheem Zahran, Aroa Mañas-Ojeda, Esther Castillo-Gómez, Francisco. E Olucha-Bordonau · FENS Forum 2024

The retrosplenial cortex (RSC) is known for its pivotal role in contextual fear conditioning, receiving inputs from both corticocortical and subcortical pathways, including the nucleus incertus in the pontine tegmentum. This region contains a GABAergic projection rich in relaxin-3 (RLN3), which acts via its Gi/o-protein-coupled receptor, RXFP3. To investigate the involvement of this peptidergic system in contextual fear conditioning, we bilaterally injected adult rat RSC with an adeno-associated virus (AAV) expressing the chimeric RXFP3 agonist R3/I5 or a control AAV and subjected them to cont

GABAergic transmission from the EP to the thalamus

Afef Abu Mukh, Alon Korngreen · FENS Forum 2024

The entopeduncular nucleus EP, one of the basal ganglia(BGs), is considered one of the essential output nuclei, sending synapses belonging to the pathways essential for normal motor activity to two specific regions in the ventral lateral thalamic nuclei(VL) and ventral anterior thalamic nuclei(VA).The basal ganglia innervate the thalamus through 3 pathways:direct, indirect, and hyper-direct.By these three pathways, we get an innervation that causes disinhibition or inhibition of the thalamus. The research aimed to study the thalamus, the relay center for transmitting information received from m
